Two more UK men arrested in Anonymous-LulzSec investigaton

The crackdown on alleged members of the Anonymous and LulzSec hacker groups by law enforcement organizations continued this week. As reported in The Guardian, two more UK men were arrested Thursday in connection with cyber attacks linked to both groups. The unidentified men, aged 24 and 20, were arrested separately in Mexborough, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and Warminster, Wiltshire.

Law enforcement officials said the arrests were part of an overall and continuing investigation by Scotland Yard and the FBI into cyber attacks with connections to Anonymous and LulzSec. The attacks themselves were made up of a  " ... series of serious computer intrusions and online denial-of-service attacks recently suffered by a number of multi-national companies, public institutions and government and law enforcement agencies in Great Britain and the US."

In related news, News.com reports that 14 alleged members of Anonymous here in the US pleaded not guilty on Thursday in a San Jose, California court. The group of people were arrested last July and are facing felony charges related to the denial of service attacks on the PayPal online payment service last December.

In the midst of all of this activity, Anonymous continues to launch cyber attacks against law enforcement groups. PC World reports that the group claimed responsibility for defacing the web site of the Texas Police Chiefs Association on Thursday. Anonymous also released a large data dump of emails lifted from the organization"s servers. The group said that the attack was made in retaliation for the recent arrests of many of its members.
