Uber has launched a new service in the UK that will allow users to rent a car via its mobile app. The service was previously trialed in Australia and France.
The company has teamed up with car rental firm CarTrawler for the new service, with rental cars available from hundreds of pickup locations across the country. The ride-hailing app will soon allow users to set a date and location for when and where they plan on renting a vehicle via the new “Uber Rent” option in the app. Uber will then surface a list of available cars for the chosen date.
Users will need to place their reservations at least 24 hours before they pick up the vehicle. Uber also offers discounts of up to 25% on rentals. In addition, customers can cancel their reservations up to 48 hours prior to pick-up.
Uber also says its vehicles are well-sanitized to ensure the safety of customers. It"s one of the steps the company is taking to help limit the spread of COVID-19, with Uber announcing earlier this week that it will require riders to take selfies to prove they"re wearing face masks. That feature was also introduced for drivers in May.
