The Tom Clancy"s Ghost Recon franchise of Ubisoft is getting another entry later this year, as Ubisoft has announced Breakpoint, a direct sequel to the 2017 title Wildlands. The company unveiled almost 15 minutes of cooperative alpha footage from the title today, seen above.
The new narrative arc that arrived to Ghost Recon Wildlands last week served as an intro for the new title"s antagonist Cole D. Walker, a rogue Ghost played by The Punisher star Jon Bernthal.
Leaving Bolivia, Breakpoint is taking the Ghosts to the fictional Pacific Island of Auroa, where Walker and a group of ex-Ghosts have taken over Skell Technologies, a company responsible for highly advanced drones, which have now been weaponized and are being controlled by Walker.
Ubisoft says the island will be home to 11 biomes and features deserts, arctic peaks, and even futuristic cities. Unlike the more arcade approach of the previous title, however, Breakpoint will be a grittier and more survival-focused game.
There is also a new injury system that will affect player movement and aiming when they take too much damage. These will remain a hindrance until manually healed. Gone are the unlimited sprints of Wildlands also, with it being replaced by a new stamina system that reacts to weather conditions and terrain. And, players will have to use bivouacs that are spread around the island to clean weapons, craft and upgrade gear from collected resources, and change classes, while also planning their next incursions.
Also unlike Wildlands, player vs player multiplayer will be included at launch for Breakpoint, and the same character that players make for their campaign will be used for the multiplayer modes. Ubisoft is planning to introduce seasonal expansions of content every four months after the game"s launch, bringing new story missions, equipment, events, and even raids as a first for the franchise.
Tom Clancy"s Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be launching on October 4, 2019 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The PC version is skipping Steam, with it only available through Uplay and Epic Games Store, much like some other recent releases of Ubisoft. Pre-ordering the game will guarantee beta access, but others will also get a chance to get a key via sign-ups later down the line.
