Ubisoft is shutting down its battle royale Hyper Scape

It seems Ubisoft is refocusing even more of its development teams. Earlier this week, the company revealed Watch Dogs: Legion won"t be receiving any further development. Now, it"s time for a purely multiplayer game to get the axe, with Ubisoft today announcing the shutdown of Hyper Scape, its battle royale entry from 2020, on April 28.

"We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28," reads an update on the official blog. "We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products."

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the battle royale launched for PC (Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 offering a fast-paced multiplayer experience with 100 players being dropped into a futuristic metaverse battlefield. There were some twists on the usual formula too, such as downed players being able to keep up and help allies with pings and an AI host that alters the game world erratically or according to Twitch viewer demands.

"To the Hyper Scape community, thank you for your passion and dedication to the world of Neo Arcadia both inside and outside of the game. Your devotion to the game we built will always be cherished," added the studio.
