With the holiday 2020 launch for Sony"s upcoming console fast approaching, gaming fans are waiting for the Japanese conglomerate to reveal more details about the PS5, especially the price which is still a mystery. Meanwhile, a little piece of information concerning the PlayStation 5 has been uncovered. An FAQ topic under Ubisoft"s Australian support website concerning the PS5 has revealed more details about its backwards compatibility.
According to the Ubisoft page, PlayStation 5 owners will be able to play PS4 titles, however, games from the previous generations of the PlayStation will not be compatible. The PS5 will not support PS1, PS2 or even PS3 games.
An excerpt of the page read:
"QUESTION: How does upgrading from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 work?
ANSWER: As part of their next-gen UPGRADE PROCESS, PlayStation offer a number of features designed to help you move from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5. PlayStation 4 players will be able to join multiplayer games with PlayStation 5 players. Backwards compatibility will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games."
Ubisoft has since taken down the question from its website. The post may have been an accidental slip up, divulging information inadvertently.
In contrast, Sony"s direct competitor Microsoft has already confirmed that Xbox Series X owners will be able to play all Xbox One titles as well as all Xbox 360 and Xbox games that are currently supported on the Xbox One via the Backward Compatibility program.
As gaming fans wait patiently - or impatiently, at this point - for Sony and Microsoft to officially confirm the pricing details on the next generation of video game consoles, some may find small comfort in the fact that Monster Energy may or may not have leaked a ball-park figure. According to a contest held by the energy drink company, the Xbox Series X might cost around $599.99.
For now, gamers will have to wait until any further information concerning either console is unveiled by either party. Hopefully, this should not be too long considering the fact that their tentative launch windows are inching closer.
