Apple is set to open pre-orders for the recently unveiled iPad Pro and iMac on April 30. The new devices were announced last week in a virtual event, where the company also revealed that it"s bringing its powerful M1 chipset to both devices.
However, Apple didn"t say when exactly it would release the devices except that it mentioned a mid-May availability for the iMac and late-May for the iPad Pro. A UK retailer, nevertheless, has revealed the exact release date for those devices. John Lewis & Partners, a London-based department store firm that stocks up on Apple products for retail, has listed the launch date for both products as May 21.
The retailer updated its store listing reflecting the availability date for the refreshed iMac as well as for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch tablet. While the date refers to the UK release of those devices, it"s hard to rule out the possibility that it applies in the U.S. as well seeing as it"s typical for Apple to launch new products in both countries on the same day.
Today"s news also seems to corroborate a previous prediction from renowned Apple leaker, Jon Prosser. He claimed that the tech giant would launch the 12.9-inch iPad Pro on May 21 and the 11-inch model a day after.
As a brief recap, the iPad Pro is priced at $799 (£749 in the UK) for the smaller variant and $1,099 (£999) for the larger version. The iMac costs $1,299 (£930), which gets you an 8-core CPU, 7-core GPU, two Thunderbolt ports, and a Magic Keyboard with no Touch ID support. That said, you can upgrade to an 8-core GPU and add two USB Type-C ports, Ethernet, and a Magic Keyboard with built-in Touch ID for $1499 (£1,449).
