Unboxing the 13.5-inch Surface Book 2

Microsoft"s Surface Pro lineup turned five years old last month. In that time, the Surface lineup has evolved quite a bit, and the latest from the company is the Surface Book 2.

Announced back in October (it was actually the first Surface to be announced via press release instead of at an event), it added a 15-inch option, as well as a whole lot more power. The U-series processors were upgraded from the dual-core "Skylake" chips to Intel"s quad-core "Kaby Lake R" processors.

The GPU got a significant improvement as well. In the 13.5-inch model, which is the one we"re unboxing today - the Core i7 variant comes with an Nvidia GeForce 1050 GPU, while the 15-inch model comes with a GTX 1060. They"re easily the most powerful Surface devices to ever be built.

And while the form factor is almost identical to its predecessor, one thing that can be appreciated is that Microsoft finally included a USB Type-C port. Unfortunately, it"s still not Thunderbolt 3; it"s USB 3.1 Gen 1, meaning it"s capped at 5Gbps, just like the proprietary Surface Connect port.
