Microsoft had a lot of Windows Phone news to talk about during its CES 2012 keynote address on Monday. However there were two interesting items that didn"t get a lot of attention. They were repeated over at Microsoft"s Windows Phone blog site. One piece of news is that Microsoft plans to sell unlocked versions of Nokia"s Lumia 800 phone in its various Microsoft Store retail locations in different colors. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced.
The Lumia 800 smartphone launched in Europe in the fall of 2011 but it looks like Microsoft and Nokia wanted the bigger and LTE supported Lumia 900 to be officially supported by a wireless carrier when it launches in the US; in this case, AT&T.
The other bit of news is that both the Lumia 710 and the Lumia 800 will be making their debuts in Canada in the not too distant future. The smartphones will be on sale in that country via the Rogers and TELUS wireless networks. Once again, pricing and availability for those phones in the Great White North have yet to be announced. There"s also no word on when or even if the Lumia 900 will be sold in Canada.
