Game developers are still trying to see if gamers will play their titles while wearing 3D glasses. Now game developers will get an easier way to add such effects in their games. Today, Epic Games announced that the latest version of Unreal Engine 3 now supports stereoscopic 3D effects provided by ReadD. This is the same company that also provides 3D support for movie theaters.
The technology is also available for anyone who uses the free UDK version of Unreal Engine 3 to create games, both for free and for commercial use. The update is included in the latest version of UDK, which can be downloaded at Epic"s website.
Seamless Entertainment has become the first developer to release a game that supports the new ReadD features in Unreal Engine 3. The company just updated their recent space shooter SOL: Exodus via Steam to add the stereoscopic 3D effects. You can also download a free demo of SOL: Exodus that has the new 3D support at Epic"s website.
Dan Magaha, studio director of Seamless Entertainment, said "We first demonstrated ‘SOL: Exodus’ in S3D at SXSW ScreenBurn, and people were blown away. We had lots of repeat visitors and are excited to make the RealD-enhanced version of ‘SOL’ available to everyone."
