Sony is expected to announce new smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC), and the details of some of them were leaked earlier this month. Now, yet another device from the company has been spotted in an FCC filing, which could be a new member of the Compact family.
As per the Xperia Blog, the smartphone, which is only identified by its FCC ID - PY7-24118Q - as of now, has peculiar dimensions. The report mentions that the device"s height is rather small considering that the device would feature a 5-inch display, but its width is similar to the XZ1 Compact that was launched last year.
One of the reasons for this could be the use of minimal bezels on the device with the help of an 18:9 aspect ratio screen, or it could be a standard screen pushed to the edges.
So far, Sony has continued to design and ship smartphones with a rather hefty top and "chin" bezels since 2013 and there hasn"t been a drastic departure from that design language. The leaked device could be a start of something new, but we will only know once an official announcement is made either at MWC in Barcelona, or otherwise in the near future.
