Samsung finally unveiled its new Galaxy S4 last week, revealing a spec sheet worth drooling over. With a 5” Full HD Super AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM and a 13MP camera, this is one handset that, on paper at least, offers plenty to get excited about.
But one aspect of the device’s specs won’t be the same everywhere. At launch, Samsung touted its eight-core Exynos 5 processor, featuring four Cortex-A15 and four Cortex-A7 cores, with automatic switching between them, depending on the performance requirements of the tasks being carried out on the handset.
But since confirming last week that the variant of the S4 headed to the United States will be getting Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor rather than the octa-core Exynos 5, Android Central has now received confirmation from Samsung that the UK version of the handset will also feature the quad-core Snapdragon. In a statement, Samsung said:
Samsung Galaxy S4 is equipped with a 1.9GHz Quad-core AP or a 1.6GHz Octa-core AP. The selection of AP varies by markets. In the UK the Galaxy S4 will be available as a 4G device with a 1.9GHz Quad Core Processor.”
It’s not yet clear which other markets will see the Snapdragon 600 rather than the Exynos 5, but given that the Qualcomm chip is one of the fastest available – and will also ship on the new HTC One, eventually – the S4 will still pack a hell of a punch either way.
