A couple of weeks back, USA Today launched a new version of its app built on Microsoft"s latest Universal Windows Platform, a key component of the recently-launched Windows 10 operating system. New-generation Universal apps are able to function across multiple devices and form factors with only minor revisions, bringing developers closer to the ultimate "write once, run anywhere" vision for software.
However, since its launch, the new USA Today app has only been available on Windows 10 PCs - but now, it"s also available for smartphones running the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview.
The new app features a completely new design and layout compared with the older version, which remains available in the Store for Windows Phone 8.1 devices. The latest version matches the look and feature set of the Windows 10 release - they are, after all, the same Universal app.
As Windows Central notes, the app is pretty limited in terms of its features - while it will allow you to synchronize saved stories with the same app on other devices, even basic functionality like Live Tile support has not yet been enabled.
Whether or not USA Today plans to deliver new features anytime soon remains to be seen - but for now, you can grab the new Windows 10 Mobile version of the app via the Windows Store on your handset.
