The world continues to wait for Apple to officially announce something about the launch of the fifth version of its best selling iPhone. The current bets have the iPhone 5 being officially revealed in September. Meanwhile both AT&T and Verizon are busy selling the iPhone 4 starting at $199 for a two year contract. AT&T has also been selling the iPhone 3GS, first launched in June 2009, for just $49.
But if you want to get your hands on the cheapest iPhone, at least in official circles, you can do so now with a newly revealed offer from AT&T. Their web site store has announced that it is selling a refurbished versions of the 8 GB iPhone 3GS for a mere $9 with a two year contract. Yes, the phone is two years old and its not a totally new model but if you are so desperate to get an iPhone with official support from AT&T this is the cheapest way to do so.
According to the web site, AT&T"s definition of "refurbished" phones are "previously owned devices that have been unused or lightly used and returned during the 30-day trial period." It adds, "Some refurbished iPhone 3G devices will have minor scratches." While the phones will have a warranty AT&T does say that it is based on the original date the phone was purchased. So if you decide to get this version of the iPhone 3GS your warranty length could be 90 days or it could be shorter than that.
