Back in February, VAIO - the company formed when Sony sold off its PC business in 2014 - unveiled its first Windows 10 Mobile device. As its name suggests, the "Phone Biz" is aimed at business customers, and features sleek aluminum bodywork.
The premium device is now available to buy in its home market of Japan, where it"s priced at ¥59,184 JPY (roughly $530 USD). That"s considerably higher than the price of ¥50,000 (currently around $450) that VAIO announced in February.
While the Phone Biz is a high-end handset, it"s not quite flagship-class, instead offering a range of components that position the device in the upper-mid-range of the smartphone market. Its key specs include:
- 5.5-inch LCD with Full HD (1920x1080px) resolution
- Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor (1.5GHz + 1.2GHz)
- 3GB RAM
- 16GB storage (plus microSD card support up to 64GB)
- 13MP rear camera
- 5MP front-facing camera
- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 4G LTE connectivity (bands 1, 3, 8, 19, 21)
- microUSB 2.0
- Mono speaker
- GPS
- 2800mAh battery
- 156.1 x 77 x 8.3mm; 167g
It"s also worth noting that, while the Phone Biz supports the PC-like Continuum feature offered by Windows 10 Mobile, the device only has a microUSB 2.0 port. This means that Continuum support is only available using a wireless connection, and not via a wired solution like Microsoft"s Display Dock.
But if you were hoping to be able to buy the Phone Biz in the US, it doesn"t look like you"ll be able to - officially, at least. The company said in February that it has "no plans" to offer the device there.
