Valve begins sending out HTC Vive VR headsets to select developers

Valve has begun shipping developer edition HTC Vive VR headsets to select developers, with more to follow over the summer.

Back in March, HTC announced the Vive VR headset in collaboration with Valve that will be released to consumers towards the end of the year. Developers were invited to try out the devices at the HTC event and register for development kits. Valve has now revealed that the first batch of these developer kits is now shipping out to randomly selected developers.

The developers who may receive the headsets include those ranging from big move studios to indie developers, but Valve has assured that more kits will be sent out over the coming months to cover all those who had registered. The development kit includes the VR headset, two Lighthouse base stations and two wireless VR controllers, in addition to various cables and instruction booklets.

Valve has opened up a new forum for developers to post their experiences and support each other, which can also be viewed by those who haven"t received their kits yet. Since Valve and HTC are putting in plenty of effort in gathering developers, it will be interesting to see what the final product brings to the consumers when it releases later this year.
