Following the release of the base version of the Steam installer, C.S. v1.6 Steam installer is now available, but a CD-key is required.
Last week, Valve released the non-beta 1.0 version of its Steam installer and its dedicated server files via its Steam content delivery system (which has drawn more than 200,000 accounts) and via mirrored sites. Soon thereafter, Valve issued the Counter-Strike v1.6 Steam installer, which is designed to operate through Valve"s Steam service. It is free of charge to users who can provide Half-Life or Counter-Strike CD-keys, a requirement to install Steam, log on, and play online.
