After bringing its Galaxy Beta Program to an end in December, Samsung began the general rollout of its Android 7.0 Nougat update in January, starting with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Major US carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, released the Nougat update for the S7 and S7 edge in February.
Owners of the two Samsung flagships on Verizon have been left waiting since then, but the wait is finally over. Verizon has announced the start of its over-the-air rollout of Android 7.0 for the Galaxy S7, bumping its software version up to NRD90M.G930VVRU4BQA2; and for the Galaxy S7 edge, with version NRD90M.G935VVRU4BQA2.
Key highlights of the update listed in Verizon"s release notes include:
- Improved battery management
- Easier multitasking
- New photo effects preview screen
- More customization for Always On Display
- More secure website access with Samsung Pass fingerprint scanning
- Flexible performance optimizations depending on your usage needs
- An updated keyboard with improved language predictions
- Ability to configure automatic access to Wi-Fi when connecting to routers and hotspots
Additionally, Verizon will no longer be pre-installing its unloved go90 entertainment app on the S7 and S7 edge, which it previously bundled with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
