Verizon FiOS to get speed boost to 300 Mbps in June

If you happen to have Verizon FiOS as your broadband Internet provider, you might be very happy after reading this next bit of news. DSLReports.com has posted word, via a Verizon spokesperson, that FiOS customers will soon be able to gain access to a number of new speed package options. That includes a new top download speed of 300 Mbps for its most expensive package.

That new speed package is double what Verizon FiOS currently offers its highest end customers. The new package also includes upload speeds of 65 Mbps compared to 35 Mbps for the current fastest tier. The chart above shows what the new broadband packages will offer FiOS customers when they become available sometime in June. As you can see, with the exception of the lowest speed tier, all of the other packages will get at least a download speed increase. Pricing and stand alone packages have yet to be announced.

While that"s good news for current FiOS subscribers, the company has apparently not changed its plans to stop building out its current infrastructure, in terms of adding new cities and towns to FiOS after 2013. At the moment, Verizon serves about 3.8 million customers with its FiOS service in the US.
