The Galaxy Nexus from Samsung was the first smartphone to get Android 4.0 out of the box. In the US, Verizon Wireless was the first carrier to sell the Galaxy Nexus in December 2011. Today, the company revealed that their version of the Galaxy Nexus can now be updated to the current Android OS version.
The update will bring the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus up to Android 4.1.1, better known as Jelly Bean. Verizon has posted up a PDF on its site describing all of the new features and improvements that Galaxy Nexus owners can expect. While the 146 MB update should be available over the air on Verizon"s network today, it may be a few days before all of the Galaxy Nexus smartphones are covered by the Jelly Bean upgrade.
The HSPA+ version of the Galaxy Nexus got its own Jelly Bean update in early July, only a couple of weeks after Android 4.1 itself was launched by Google. The version of the Galaxy Nexus sold on Sprint received its Jelly Bean upgrade earlier this month. Other Android 4.0 devices are scheduled to get the Android 4.1 upgrade in the next few months.
