Verizon teams up with McAfee to offer improved security suite

Verizon has announced that they will begin offering an improved version of their internet security suite to their FiOS and High Speed Internet customers based on McAfee technology.

"Our award-winning Internet security suite now becomes even more powerful with world-class security technology from McAfee," said Eric Bruno, Verizon’s vice president for product management. "We"re excited to work with McAfee to provide VISS subscribers with an enhanced, robust security solution that simplifies online protection at home and in the small-business office."

“Working with Verizon gives us an opportunity to reach more than 9 million Internet users who need protection from the growing volume and sophistication of threats. We look forward to a long relationship that provides Verizon"s users with the best technology and security products so that they can enjoy a safer online experience," said Todd Gebhart, McAfee’s executive vice president and general manager of consumer, mobile and small business.

The new security suite features a firewall with inbound and outbound filtering, along with anti-spam, anti-virus, and anti-spyware protection. In addition it also includes a family protection feature to keep children safe from exposure to inappropriate content on the Internet by filtering things such as keywords, phrases, and search results. It also allows parents to monitor instant messaging conversations and control access to e-mail.

Verizon Internet Security Suite is being offered to both consumers and small businesses at the current monthly subscription rates of $5.99 for coverage on up to three computers, $10.98 for up to six computers, and $15.97 for up to nine computers. In other news, Facebook announced last week that its user base will get 6 months free of McAfee protection.
