Following in the footsteps of its smartphone rivals, Verizon announced at the annual CTIA wireless trade show that they are launching an App Store to compete with AT&T"s offering for the iPhone and Google"s portal for its Android smartphones.
Verizon is entering into a crowded market, and they are pulling some tricks out of their sleeves to make up for time lost. Verizon"s App Store has a distinct advantage over other carriers in that you can pay for your apps by simply adding the charge to your monthly bill, when other carriers require a second, separate account to pay for your apps.
According to PC Magazine"s coverage of the event, Leroy Williams, Verizon"s developer community liaison, said that Verizon will be rolling out the new App Store on the Blackberry Storm 2 first, followed by rollouts on other smartphones in "the next few weeks and months."
