Verizon Wireless" LTE 4G network seems to be giving some of its users problems this evening. Droid-Life.com reports that a number of Verizon customers have been reporting that the LTE network is not currently working in at least some parts of the US. It doesn"t appear to be a complete blackout. The story also claims that some 3G Verizon subscribers are also experiencing some connection issues. Other reports have been posted over at a Reddit comments post.
Our own testing in Greer, South Carolina shows that the LTE network is still up and running with no issues.
While Verizon has yet to comment on these problems on their official Twitter and Facebook pages, a Reddit user called Vzw_insider has been updating the site with some comments of his own. He was the first to confirm the LTE connection problems, saying, " ... sorry for the issues but were working on it as fast as we can ..." Apparently Verizon got the Northeast part of the US back up and running, with Vzw_insider saying, "As you can imagine there are certain land marks and important groups of people that live up there that could with a phone call make the CEO very unhappy."
While this issue doesn"t appear to be very widespread it is just the latest problem that has hit owners of smartphones this month. Last week most Blackberry owners experienced long periods of problems connecting to the phone"s online services like email, text messaging and web browsing. The problems, which were attributed to a core switch failing in the online infrastructure, were fixed on Thursday.
