Fatshark announced Warhammer 40,000: Darktide earlier this year during the Xbox Games Showcase, and today during the Game Awards, the studio revealed the cooperative shooter"s first gameplay footage. The developer is also behind the popular Vermintide cooperative titles that take place in the Warhammer Fantasy universe.
As evident by the gameplay trailer above, the studio"s familiar four-player cooperative playstyle returns as a major aspect, with each player taking control of a different class like a Guardsman, Priest, or Ogryn, that have their own unique attack patterns and abilities. Considering the universe, big guns obviously play a much larger role in this universe, as do chainsaw-attached melee weapons. Players will be able to customize their class, skills, and loadout much like in Vermintide.
The storyline follows a squad of convict turned agents working for the Inquisition to eliminate Chaos cultist corruption. Here"s how the developer describes the setting of its newest game:
In the depths of the hive, the seeds of corruption threaten an overwhelming tide of darkness. A heretical cult known as the Admonition seeks to seize control of the planet Atoma Prime and lay waste to its inhabitants. It is up to you and your allies in the Inquisition to root out the enemy before the city succumbs to Chaos.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is slated to launch sometime in 2021, and is heading to PC as well as Xbox Series X|S platform as a console exclusive. The studio will also continue to update Vermintide 2 with new content.
