Vernee's new Apollo 2 flagship will have 8GB RAM; first phone to use 10-core Helio X30 chip

Last March, Chinese manufacturer Vernee launched the Apollo, its $399 Android flagship with a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen, MediaTek Helio X20 system-on-a-chip, and a whopping 6GB of RAM.

Vernee is now preparing for the launch of that handset"s successor, and it looks set to pack some even more monstrous specs.

Roland Quandt from WinFuture.de tweeted what appears to be an official slide from Vernee, which reveals that the Apollo 2 will come in two configurations. One will have 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, while the second model will have twice as much storage and an astonishing 8GB of RAM.

The image also notes that the Apollo 2 will be the world"s first smartphone to use MediaTek"s new deca-core Helio X30 SoC, which was announced last September. The X30 uses a three island design, with:

  • 2 x Cortex-A73 @ 2.8GHz
  • 4 x Cortex-A53 @ 2.2GHz
  • 4 x Cortex-A35 @ 2.0GHz

It can support up to 8GB of 1866MHz RAM with its four LPDDR4X bays; 4K video recording and playback at 30fps with the PowerVR 7XTP-MT4 GPU (850MHz); and dual-cameras up to 28MP.

A teaser from Vernee last month, shown above, hinted at plans to launch a new device with the X30, although it hadn"t previously confirmed that that handset would be the Apollo 2.

The Apollo 2 will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress industry expo in Barcelona later this month. Neowin will be at MWC 2017, so we"ll be hoping to get our hands on the powerful new device while we"re there.
