Vertu Constellation Android smartphone to retail for $6700

British based luxury phone manufacturer Vertu is set to release what could be the world’s most expensive smartphone.

The Constellation is expected to retail in the oncoming weeks for a whopping price of $6,700, or 4,900. The former Nokia subsidiary hopes the dual-core 1.7GHZ Snapdragon processor- along with a 13 megapixel camera- will impress the few consumers who can afford the phone. It further boasts 32GB of internal memory will sport a GPS, an 1800mAh battery and 3G HSPA+ connectivity. The slightly outdated Android 4.2.2 Jellybean software will come installed on the device.

With its mediocre specs, you are probably wondering why this phone is so incredibly expensive. The answer is clear and simple- the immaculate hand-crafted design. The phone packs a 4.3 inch display with a resolution of 720p. A premium sapphire crystal screen will ensure the phone is protected from scratches, while the titanium body is clad by the finest leather sourced from a tannery in the Alps dating back 150 years.

Other features on the UK assembled device include personal protection and tracking, encrypted speech, and even a secret button which sends a custom message to a security advisor of your choice. The phone leather will be available in several colours: Black, orange, mocha, and raspberry just to name a few.

From what we have seen thus far, the flagship Constellation model is a step up from its earlier offering in the form of the “Ti”, which retailed for $10,000. However, while the latest gadget boasts a first-class build, we are not entirely sure if it is worth the price. Head of Design Hutch Hutchison insists the premium feel of the device is unrivaled by any other company.

"One of the core thoughts about this was tactility, and it features a much thicker, more sumptuous leather than we"ve ever used before - really beautiful in the hand and comfortable in the pocket."

This is not the first time we have seen a ludicrous pricetag on a smartphone. Earlier this year, we revealed Goldgenie"s gold plated iPhones retail at the mere price of $4,000!

The Constellation release is a significant moment for private equity group EQT VI, who acquired the company last year in October. As for Nokia, they are still making minor contributions to this day through their 10% sharehold stake of the company. The phone will be available through Vertu boutique stores and approved retailers.
