DOCUMENTS SEEN BY The INQ appear to show that Via is putting more effort into promoting its "Eden" system platform. The firm is positioning Eden, which doesn"t need a fan, as the highest performing and most scaleable X86 embedded thingie on the planet.
It is suggesting Eden is used for remote education systems, LCD PCs, digital imaging services, POS (point of sale) terminal and kiosks, and for use in industrial settings.
Via is telling its partners that the Eden systems will support WinXP, Win9X, Embedded Windows, Windows CE, Red Hat and Red Flag Linux, and has "comprehensive" driver support. Driver and software support for Win VE 3.0/4.0 -- .net – includes audio, storage, USB, LAN, infrared, touch panel, Longhaul, Firewire and DOS-free boot.
When Via"s Nehemiah CPU is released, the chips in the Eden CPU will support SSE. In Q1, its Eden ESP 8000 will clock at 800MHz, have 6W TDPmax, while in Q3 next year it will speed along at 1GHz, support SSE and SSE2, and have 8W TDPmax. The chipset support will include MPEG4 decode, DirectX9 and DDR 400 later this year, or early next year.
