It"s been almost two months since Google formally announced Android 5.0 Lollipop, at a launch event that came months after the OS was first unveiled at the company"s I/O developer conference back in June. So far, Google and its hardware partners have done a pretty wretched job of rolling the update out to end users, with just 0.1% of Android devices now running the latest version of the OS.
But the update is trickling out - it is currently rolling out to Google"s Nexus range, as well as to the LG G3, and various other manufacturers have also detailed their update plans. And thanks to a video released by SamMobile, we now have a preview of some of what Samsung has in store for the Lollipop update on its new Galaxy Note 4.
Android 5.0 is the centerpiece of Google"s new visual language, which it calls "Material Design" - but if you were expecting Samsung to ditch its own user interface in favour of stock Android, you"re out of luck.
Samsung"s TouchWiz UI lives on in its Android 5.0 ROM, but there"s no doubting that Material Design has had some influence on the company"s design decisions in updating its interface. Many apps now sport a cleaner, flatter look, and some have been redesigned entirely, including the Settings app, which we certainly found a little annoying when we reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S5 earlier this year.
There"s still no word on when the update will actually be released, but given that most other manufacturers are promising to upgrade their leading devices to Lollipop within 90 days of its launch, it seems that Android 5.0 could make it to the Galaxy Note 4 and other Samsung handsets in a matter of weeks.
