Videocon unveiled the "world’s first hybrid Windows 10-powered LED TV" in partnership with Microsoft. The set comes in two variants: 32-inch, which is priced at Rs. 39,990 ($610), and 40-inch, which costs Rs. 52,990 ($810).
The smart TV, which the company is referring to as “One Touch PC, One Touch TV,” sports a full-HD (1,920x1,080) display. It is powered by 2GB of RAM, and features 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. On the connectivity front, the device comes equipped with HDMI ports, and supports Wi-Fi.
On the software side, it runs Windows 10 and has Microsoft Office (the exact version hasn’t been revealed) pre-installed. The Indian electronics company says that the television offers users a seamless way to switch between the PC and regular TV modes.
Videocon is excited about the Windows 10-powered TV, and says that if it manages to sell a substantial number of units, it would launch more variants of the TV in a number of other screen sizes.
Commenting on the launch, Akshay Dhoot, Videocon Head of Technology and Innovation said:
"In these changing times, we realised the needs of our consumers of having easy access to technology at their convenience and therefore designed the world"s first hybrid TV cum PC. Right now, we have launched only 32 and 40-inch models, which are popular in the consumer segment. Depending on the feedback from the market, we would launch 55, 65 and 24-inches also. With this innovative product, we intend to extend the Windows 10 experience to more users... At Microsoft, it is our constant endeavor to help our partners enter newer categories and create innovative products in order to offer our customers the best user experience at affordable price points."
Considering so many companies are shipping Android-powered TVs these days, it was high time a manufacturer tried to broaden options for users with Microsoft’s software. It will be interesting to see how consumers receive this TV.
