Virgin Media customers have started receiving letters informing them that from November 2016 the line rental cost will increase from £17.99 to £19 per month, and Line Rental Saver plans will go up to £196 per year from £184. Broadband packages and bundles are also set to receive price increases of between £3 and £4 per month.
Gregor McNeil, a managing director at Virgin Media, said:
“Data usage continues to grow 60 percent every year. We do everything we can to keep prices competitive while striking the balance with investing in more of what out customers want.”
The price hike is the third customers have seen this year alone. The latest increase pushes prices above inflation as the company finds ways to fund its multi-billion pound commitment to improving its UK infrastructure. Customers who are unhappy with the increase have 30 days from receiving the price change details to tell Virgin Media that they wish to cancel, thanks to rules brought in by Ofcom. Only those who joined after January 23, 2014 have the option to leave without incurring a penalty.
In February, Virgin Media increased prices by an average 5.4% for about 4.4 million customers, then in June it upped the price of some TV packages for those with Sky Sports and Sky Movies.
