Samsung"s dual-edge display, found on devices such as the Galaxy S6 edge, edge+ and the latest S7 edge, will soon be featured in many Chinese smartphones, as the company is said to have received contracts from various firms from the country.
When Samsung first introduced the Galaxy Note Edge with a single-edge curved screen, it was reported that the company did not plan to sell the smartphone in large volumes, which could have been due to the short supply of parts required for the display panel and the complexities of the process. However, these issues seem to be over for the Korean electronics giant as it has globally launched three smartphones with curved screens so far, and will likely be sourcing panels to Chinese manufacturers.
According to a report from ETNews, Samsung Display will be supplying the Edge OLED displayes to Chinese OEMs Vivo, Xiaomi and Huawei for their forthcoming products. At least one device, the Vivo XPlay5 is confirmed to feature a dual-edge screen when it launches in China today. Huawei has been long rumoured to use the tech in its flagship smartphone as well. The BlackBerry Priv smartphone that was launched towards the end of last year, also features the Edge screen from Samsung.
The Edge display brings some interesting functionality to devices and having it on devices from manufacturers other than Samsung, will definitely be welcomed by consumers seeking choice.
