Fans of the VLC media player app may finally be able to download the first public Windows 8 version in less than a week. A post on the VideoLAN Twitter account earlier today stated that the app may be available to download from the Windows Store on Monday, March 10th.
The announcement may signal the end of a very long wait for the VLC app, which was funded in late 2012 by a successful Kickstarter campaign. A couple of weeks ago, the VideoLAN team announced that the Windows 8 VLC app had finally passed Microsoft"s certification process but there were still a few more visual bugs to fix before the team was ready to unleash the app.
VLC for Windows 8 will reportedly lack a few features for its first release, according to Windowsblogitalia. One of them will be support for video subtitles. However, the first version will support Snap view, streaming of content, and will also allow for external storage devices like Flash drives and USB hard drives. Stay tuned as we plan to get more information about the first version of VLC for Windows 8 in the very near future.
