VLC returns to the iOS App Store, some existing users able to update to new version

VLC has returned to the iOS App Store, but only for a select few at the moment. iOS users in some countries are seeing an updated version in the iOS App Store available for download. Some existing users are also reporting that an update is available for their VLC app.

It has been quite some time since iOS users were able to download and use VLC to stream their favorite shows and movies. The app used to be available some years back, but was pulled due to licensing issues. After a brief return in 2013, the app was again pulled.

For those that have waited patiently , we received our first glimmer of hope during the winter with the lead developer claiming that the app could return to the iOS App Store in a few days. But, days turned into weeks and weeks into months, without a trace of the new app. Luckily, today it looks like more than a few iOS users are reporting that they have received a new update for VLC from the iOS App Store or are able to download the new version.

For those eagerly awaiting, keep your fingers crossed as the update could touch down soon. If you are a current user of VLC for iOS, let us know if you have received the update to version 2.4.1 and what region you are in.
