Vodafone UK is expanding its 5G services to 12 more locations across the country, giving its customers a faster mobile data experience. The newest added locations are: Coventry, Dursley, Golborne, Keynsham, Llantwit Major, Lydney, Redditch, Rickmansworth, South Lackenby, Thornbury, Watford, and Wigan.
With more people working remotely than ever, 5G plays an important role to improve efficiency, said Vodafone. The company added that it could be possible that 5G will enable smart car parking, remote health services, and even enable ambulances to communicate with community infrastructure like traffic lights.
Vodafone"s chief network officer in the UK, Andrea Dona, said:
“The arrival of 5G gives our customers some of the fastest mobile data speeds in the UK, and a mobile network they can rely on. It will open up all sorts of possibilities for our consumer customers, as well as local businesses and their employees, supporting the local economy and helping to deliver a greener, more prosperous and digitally connected region. We are investing in our network across the UK and look forward to seeing how that investment will benefit local people and businesses.”
Expanding 5G coverage across UK is part of Vodafone"s network modernization program. The carrier will begin retirement of its legacy 3G network in 2023 while repurposing the spectrum to boost 4G and 5G coverage.
Vodafone is also partnering with Ericsson to create UK"s first on-demand 5G network. Trials have shown that businesses can deploy dedicated on-demand 5G for enterprise-level connectivity.
