Volkswagen now lets you interact with your vehicle using Siri

Volkswagen"s Car-Net App-Connect system already supports the Apple CarPlay standard, among others, to cast smartphone apps onto the dashboard display. As part of efforts to advance the development of connected vehicles, the German automaker announced today that its Car-Net mobile app now integrates with Siri to let you control your vehicle using voice commands.

With the integration, you will be able to use Apple’s voice assistant to lock and unlock the car, sound the horn or flash the lights, and estimate how far your vehicle can travel with its remaining fuel. The app also added several Siri shortcuts for starting and stopping the charging of an electric vehicle, operating the defroster, setting the climate control, and finding your vehicle.

Abdallah Shanti, Executive Vice President of Global Chief Information Officer Volkswagen Brand & Car-IT, said:

We are constantly looking at innovative ways to make VW Car-Net more convenient and relevant for our customers. With Siri Shortcuts, creating voice commands to use with our mobile app was a great opportunity to do just that! Integration with Siri helps our drivers keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

The feature is available only with Apple devices running iOS 12 and compatible with Volkswagen infotainment systems in select car models including the Tiguan crossover.
