Walmart is apparently tired of selling a product that it feels comes from a direct competitor. Specifically, Walmart no longer wants anything to do with the Kindle line of eReaders and tablets made by Amazon, which obviously also sells lots of products on its website that Walmart offers.
Reuters reports that, according to an internal memo, Walmart told its store managers Wednesday, "We have recently made the business decision to not carry Amazon tablets and eReaders beyond our existing inventory and purchase commitments. This includes all Amazon Kindle models current and recently announced."
Walmart will continue to sell Apple"s iPad tablet as well as the Nook tablet and eReaders from bookseller Barnes and Noble.
Amazon recently announced a refresh of its Kindle line up, including the front-lit Kindle Paperwhite eReader that will go on sale on October 1st. It also announced new versions of the Kindle Fire tablet, including a revamped version of the original and the new seven inch Kindle Fire HD that are now on sale. Two more 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HD models, one with 4G LTE wireless, will go on sale in November.
Earlier this year, Target decided to also do away with selling the Kindle line up of devices for similar reasons.
