Watch 28 Windows Phones linked to form one large Bing map

A few weeks ago, we reported that a team had decided to break a world record by linking up 144 Windows Phones to form one large video screen. Today, another video has hit the net that shows something that"s on a smaller scale but just as impressive.

Rudy Huyn, a developer of a number of Windows Phone apps, has released a YouTube video (via WPCentral.com) that shows 28 Windows Phone devices linked together to form one large screen. This time, however, the screens are not running a simple video file but the Bing Maps application.

The devices are all controlled by another Windows Phone device. As you can see in the video, the 28 screens show Bing Maps running as it zooms in and out of a map of Europe along with panning left and right. You can see another video showing the same demo from a different angle below.

In the comments below the WPCentral.com post, Huyn says he was able to create this Windows Phone Bing Maps wall with a special app developed during a recent hackathon in France with some Microsoft involvement; he promises to reveal more about this homebrew application on his official blog site in the near future.
