In recent weeks, Microsoft has celebrated a growing list of high-profile apps built on its Universal Windows Platform for Windows 10, including the likes of Netflix, The Wall Street Journal, TuneIn, AccuWeather, iHeartRadio, and many others. But it"s not all been good news; alongside these new additions, some big brands have also pulled their support for Windows - and the latest among them is US TV network ABC.
As WinBeta reports, an ABC news release dated January 5 - which has mysteriously vanished, but is cached here - announced that the "Watch ABC" and "Watch ABC Family" apps are being pulled from the Windows Store, and will no longer provide access to content from January 11:
We launched the WATCH ABC and WATCH ABC Family apps on Windows in 2013 and 2014 respectively, to make it easy for viewers to watch their favorite ABC and ABC Family shows on the Windows phone or tablet of their choice. While we appreciate our loyal Windows community, we regret to inform viewers that we will be retiring the WATCH ABC and WATCH ABC Family apps on the Windows platform on January 11, 2016. Both apps will not be available for download in the Windows app store starting today and you will no longer be able to stream content through the apps starting January 11th, 2016.
The network advises users to watch its content instead via abc.com or freeform.com "from a supported web browser on your desktop or supported mobile devices."
Fellow US network Comedy Central also announced the withdrawal of its Windows app last month, as did messaging and photo-sharing app Path. Financial management service Mint, and UK shopping loyalty giant Nectar were among several popular brands to pull their Windows Phone apps in the last few months.
