Microsoft is allowing web developers, and indeed everyone else, a chance to see what new features are under development and are in consideration for future editions of Internet Explorer. This week, the company officially launched the status.modern.ie web page. a sub-section of its Modern.IE development site.
In a blog post, Microsoft said that the status.modern.IE page shows that the team is working on many new features for upcoming versions of IE, including Web Audio, Media Capture, HTTP/2 and more. It added:
These features form a part of our commitment to delivering interoperable implementations for the latest features on the modern Web. The current list of features “in development” is not an exhaustive representation of what we will deliver in the next version, but an indication of what we currently have highest confidence in delivering.
Beyond just showing a list of upcoming features, the IE team at Microsoft is also working to improve the browser to match its overall goal: "The Web should just work for everyone – users, developers and businesses." The team believes this goal can be achieved by getting everyone to use the most current version of IE, along with better investments in security and making sure the browser has both backwards compatibility as well as support for the most modern HTML5 features. The blog stated, "We look forward to sharing more with you on how we plan to make those priorities a reality in the coming months."
