It feels like we"ve barely had time to get to know Intel"s current crop of Core processors so far, following their announcement just under a year ago. The seventh-generation CPUs, also known by their "Kaby Lake" codename, are still making their way to new devices, including Microsoft"s recently-launched Surface Pro tablet and Surface Laptop.
Now, Intel is preparing to introduce its newest wave of processors. Today, it said that it will officially announce details of its eighth-generation "Coffee Lake" chips on August 21, in an event that will be streamed on Facebook Live.
Like the current generation, the 8th-gen chips will still be built on a 14nm process, but they should still offer a big performance boost compared with Kaby Lake. In February, Intel said that its eighth-generation Core processors were expected to deliver at least 15% better performance than their predecessors - but in May, it said that it had actually seen an improvement of over 30%.
We"re also expecting Intel to announce new U-series chips this month, paving the way for manufacturers to launch more powerful Ultrabooks with quad-core processors.
