Although computer graphics have become pretty impressive over the past decade, there is still something special about seeing an actual tangible piece of technology on-screen when watching a movie or TV show.
Weta Workshop has been behind key physical effects used in some of the largest productions, bringing imaginative scenes and characters to life in films like Avatar, The Lord of the Rings series, Mad Max: Fury Road and more.
At the end of the month, Masamune Shirow"s Ghost in the Shell will be released in movie theaters, and Adam Savage of Tested has been at Weta to show off some of its work. Today, we get to take a look inside (literally) one of the protagonists of the film, Major Motoko Kusanagi.
Weta was able to create the highly intricate endoskeleton by 3D printing different materials like resin and steel. As you can imagine, the process took quite a bit of experimentation and while there isn"t a firm count of parts for the model - estimated at around 300-400 - the results are absolutely astounding.
