This past week we finally saw the launch of the long-awaited Nintendo Switch console and although there were various teardowns on the first day, it took a bit longer for someone to produce a video that shows the device going through a variety of stress tests.
As always, the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel has obtained a brand new Switch console and has tested how much abuse the device can take. Perhaps one of the most interesting parts is that the screen is made from plastic and that it is not very resistant to scratches. There is also the interesting tidbit about the action buttons on the Joy-Con controller and how the markers for each button aren"t just screen printed, but are actually injected through the entire button. This means that no matter how much you play, the symbols on those buttons will never fade away.
Lastly, while the console survives a lot of bending, it seems the weak points are actually in the way the railings are attached to the side of the console. Since the metal railings are attached to the plastic console with screws, exerting quite a bit of force on them causes the railing to snap off. Naturally, a majority of Switch consoles will never see this kind of abuse, but its good to know just how much it can take.
