WGA is normally needed on a user"s computer in order to download any file from Microsoft. It contacts the Microsoft server and checks for validity - either granting access to the file or sending the user to a website regarding purchasing a legal copy of Windows.
A news website, ghacks.net, has found a workaround to bypass Microsoft"s Windows Genuine Advantage giving users access to files on the whole Microsoft website. A tool knows as the "Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool" (mgadiag.exe) allows the user, assuming the download url of the file is known, to gain access to the file whether a genuine copy of Windows is installed or not. The program generates a seven character and number "Download Center Code" which can then be entered at the file"s download URL.
