User Genuine Advantage, that"s when Microsoft actually lets you use the product you paid for without nag screens and prompts all over the place -ok, it doesn"t exist, but I already feel a need for it. Its ironic to think that in an era where high bandwidth users are able to get online and surf faster than ever before, the download process to update program faults, buffer over-runs and security patches in the guise of "Windows Updates" is becoming a rather lengthy process.
It"s no secret that most internet news outlets despise WGA, there are many examples on the internet on the "usability and implementation" of WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) and most are quick to point out how long it takes for someone to bypass it. I personally use the Auto Update feature in XP but that means some updates now get by-passed because of the WGA switch.
ActiveWin has posted up a link to a website that explains in detail how WGA can be bypassed. Microsoft keep updating the WGA methods and from what I"ve seen in the article there is still more than one way to disable it!
Anyway the point of this post is that Microsoft have now launched OGA (Office Genuine Advantage) it works the same way as WGA but then for Office. So excuse me while I wet myself with joy, in the meantime you can have a look here for an example of how Office updates will work in the future.
