WhatsApp brings in-app YouTube playback to some beta users

WhatsApp keeps on updating its app with new features every now and then. Recently, the company introduced an upgraded file-sharing feature and an emoji search. Another update has now rolled out allowing some beta users on iOS devices to play shared YouTube videos in-app.

Currently, any YouTube video link shared through WhatsApp will open on a separate YouTube app, which is soon going to change. The latest beta update of the app has received some hidden features and in-app YouTube playback is one of them.

In the latest beta, tapping on any shared YouTube link will open the video in picture-in-picture mode. The video can then be watched in the small floating window opened above the chat allowing the users to multitask. It can be put into fullscreen mode by pinching on the video. Currently, the video will only keep playing as long as the user remains in the same chat and will disappear as soon as any other chat is opened.

This feature is currently available on iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus only. It is unclear if it will make its way to Android and Windows phones, but considering that it is in testing stage right now, it can be assumed that it"ll come to these platforms as well.
