WhatsApp may eventually get a web version if a recent discovery from its Android code is something to go by.
While Google is busy preparing to launch a mobile app to compete with WhatsApp, it seems WhatsApp wants to take its application to the web, as a new report has indicated that the company might be planning to launch a browser based version of its messenger.
The Android version of the popular mobile messaging application was recently inspected by a reporter from AndroidWorld, only to find mentions of "WhatsApp Web," which has led many people to believe that the company might be working on a browser version as well.
According to the findings of AndroidWorld, WhatsApp users will know when their contacts were last online from the web in addition to the current last seen status. A url pointing to the web version of WhatsApp is also up and requires a Google Account to sign-in. However, it cannot be confirmed if it is for the same purpose, as logging in does not take the user any further.
WhatsApp hasn"t revealed any plans about moving to more platforms and requires mobile numbers to register from the app, but it could change soon if this new piece of information is to be believed.
