Popular IP messaging service WhatsApp is currently experiencing a massive outage. Users are reporting the inability to send or receive messages, as posted by many users on Twitter. Neowin can confirm that the service is indeed down in India and Pakistan as well.
A look at some of the reports, such as on Downdetector suggests that the service is down across the globe, with most reports coming from the European and American continent. The UK seems to have the most hit, with over 71,000 reports coming in from that country as of the time of writing. Since the service seems to have just gone down, reports are still pouring from other regions as well. Other outage reporting websites are also reporting of the service being down.
Currently, none other Facebook-owned services seem to be down, and Facebookâs Platform Status page does not have any mention of the outage. However, guessing from the number of reports from across regions and from Twitter, it is safe to assume that the issue is widespread and is affecting the service.
The article will be updated with information from the messaging service or parent company Facebook on details and expected revival of the service, as it arrives.
Update: Multiple user reports have indicated that the service is back up and running. However, no official statement has been posted by Facebook about the outage and the revival of service as of yet.
