Stickers have become one of the popular features of Facebook-owned apps including Messenger and Instagram, except WhatsApp. But that will change over the coming weeks as the team behind the messaging app announced today the upcoming launch of stickers on WhatsApp for iOS and Android.
The upcoming feature is aimed at adding richness to the way you create messages on the platform. For example, you can send a smiling teacup or a sad heart to suit your mood. To get started, just tap the sticker button on the app. You can then pick from a selection of stickers or add new packs by hitting the plus icon. While the launch stickers are created by WhatsApp"s designers, sticker packs will also come from external artists.
WhatsApp says that it will allow designers and developers from across the world to submit their own stickers for the platform using APIs and interfaces. With these tools, developers can build Android or iOS apps that bundle stickers for WhatsApp. These apps will be added to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, provided they are legal and acceptable. The complete list of requirements for creating WhatsApp stickers is available here.
The new feature complements the app"s existing tools including a redesigned status, emoji, and soon a dark mode for its iOS version.
