Wi-Fi deployed in Heathrow Terminal One

A new wireless network has been unveiled in Heathrow Airport"s Terminal One. Intel has created the new network, with help from various UK firms including BT and BAA (the airport operator).

Similar systems have also been set up by the companies involved at other major UK airports including Gatwick, Stansted and Aberdeen and there have been similar deployments in Paris and Frankfurt over the last month.

The Wi-Fi networks do come at a considerable cost, however. BT offer the service at £6 per hour or £85 per month, although for a business professional this isn"t unreasonable. Intel are also hoping to cash in as they feel widespread use of Wi-Fi will result in a boost in laptop sales.

Britain is now the second most advanced Wi-Fi market in Europe, with Scandinavia currently leading in terms of uptake. The head of brand marketing for Intel has claimed that "In the UK, we"d like to see 2,000 hot spots by year-end. There are 800 now".
