There is a lot of rumour and hearsay surrounding the new Source 2 game engine, and the title that made its predecessor popular, Half-Life 3.
While there has been no official word from Valve, fans of the series are sure to be buzzing with excitement at the possibility that the next chapter in the Half-Life game could be shown at Gamescom 2012, after the title appeared on a recently updated list of games to be shown off at the event.
It could be Half-Life 2 Episode 3 being teased, a genuine mistake, or even a way to generate buzz around the event. However, the inclusion of Half-Life 3 on the list has been branded a mistake by Gamescom organizers. There is still no word on why it was included in the first place and when the list is translated, Gamescom have stated “No responsibility is taken for the correctness of this information.”
Half-Life 2 was release on 16 November 2004, and while it wouldn’t be the longest game in development, it’s been (and appears that it will continue to be) a long wait for the next chapter in the Half-Life series.
According to their website, Gamescom is the world’s largest trade fair and event highlight for interactive games and entertainment. The event runs from the 15th to the 19th August 2012 in Cologne, Germany.
