Will Huawei be forced to bypass Windows Phone 8 US event?

A few weeks ago, Microsoft sent out invites to the media to "save the date" of October 29th to attend an event in San Francisco for the "launch" of Windows Phone 8 (in fact, the first phones with the mobile OS will likely go on sale in early November). Today, Microsoft sent over an updated invite to Neowin and other media outlets with more specific location details.

However, it looks like one of Microsoft"s Windows Phone 8 hardware partners may not make the US launch event. WPCentral.com reports that, according to a message from Huawei CEO Yu Chengdong, their Windows Phone 8 device may not appear in San Francisco because of  the "Sino-US political and economic storm”.

He is almost certainly referring to the current issue his company and another Chinese smartphone maker, ZTE, have with the US government. Earlier this month, the U.S. House of Representatives" Intelligence Committee issued a report recommending that both companies be kept out of the US market due to possible security issues. Both Huawei and ZTE have denied they pose any such threat.

Images of Huawei"s Windows Phone 8 device, the Ascend W1, have already been leaked online. It"s possible that the company will be a part of other Windows Phone 8 launch events that will be held in other parts of the world such as London. Munich, and Milan.
